Our country was founded by heroes, and has grown and prospered because of the heroic actions of those who went above and beyond to do what they knew was right - usually in the face of life-threatening opposition.
This country STILL has a great and desperate need for heroes - especially since the horrible events of 9/11. On that one day alone, heroes were made - most of whom had no plans or ideas that their lives and their sacrifices would be part of the history of our country. And now that we are forced to live in scary times of terrorism and mistrust, we are waiting and looking for the heroes to rise up once more. We hunger for the stories of hope and encouragement, and want to believe that there are still those "Supermen" and John Waynes, JFK's and Mickey Mantles out there to look up to - for our children to look up to - to emulate and give reassurance that everything is going to be alright once again.
True heroes STILL exist all around us. They are the men, women and children who are willing to risk it all for a purpose higher than the self. They deserve to be recognized.
